Plague
September 12th, 2025
It seemed as though they were not able to demolish the city faster than they could build it. These zones tend to plague mega cities like viruses spreading from cell to cell. Some arias are slowly forgotten as others are realized and rebuilt. What intrigued me the most was the type of people that lived in each zone. Once you spend enough time in each you realize it’s all the same people. The only real difference is the division of wealth.
Father
August 6th, 2025
On our way back from the lookout point we passed through an old abandoned part of town. My father asked me to make sure my door was locked as we drove through this stretch. I asked him why this part of town was abandoned multiple times. He never gave me a straight answer, always changed the subject. Some of my friends say that division had to be evacuated because of a meltdown of a small modular reactor. Whatever the reason is, my father was always nervous driving through this part of town.
Lookout Point
August 2nd, 2025
We got the opportunity to travel outside the city perimeter today. My Father drove us out to a lookout point he had discovered while going about one of his night drives. He did that from time to time, just jump in the car, put on his favourite CD and drive. This lookout point had a clearing on a hilltop that allowed you to see all of downtown from a single vantage point. Made you appreciate the huge vertical farming structure protruding from its core. This Monolithic structure is what supplied everyone’s food and water. It’s one of the only self-sustaining cities in North America.
Emergency Drill
July 24th 2025
They ran an emergency drill today which also included powering on some of the matter collider towers. Apparently they need one minute to be fully up and running, this shouldn't be a problem because the military brags about being able to detect a antimatter warhead launch before its even airborne. Once airborne they take approximately 10 minutes to circle the globe and strike their target. The sound’s the towers make reminds me of a mix between a ships fog horn and howling wind blowing by an open door. I definitely wouldn't be able to sleep though something like this. The Unfortunate truth this test brought to light was the fact that the town’s electrical grid was not powerful enough to keep the towers running for more than 3 minutes. For the rest of the day we were stuck using generators to run our power hungry, automated homes. They are ordering more reactors to help power the grid for the next test. Let's hope the next time we hear these things running it’s still a test.
Matter Collider
July 5th 2025
The bomb shelter isn’t exactly what everyone expected. It’s simply a small town that everyone can easily feel at home in. The homes are fully retrofitted with a lot of automated functions. My favorite is the kitchens that cook all your meals and once your done dose the dishes. When we were brought to our new home they briefed us on the safety precautions of the town. Scattered around the town are these large matter collider towers. They force the antimatter warheads to collide with regular matter before reaching their desired target. They remind me of the superstructures we would climb back home. For now everyone seems a lot more calm and to be honest i like this house more than our last.
Antimatter Warfare
July 4th 2025
The military came to our town to help with the evacuation. Ther’re bringing us to a bomb shelter three hours outside of town. My dad said it would be safe there. For the past month, there has been a growing worry over antimatter warfare. Weapons with destructive capabilities beyond our comprehension. A friend of mine said one of these weapons could cut a hole straight through the earth. If he’s right how is a bomb shelter going to protect us………
Befores And Afters
Was interviewed by Befores And Afters on the creative / technical process behind our work on watchmen :)
Check it out here
Watchmen Reel
The amazing team over at MARZ cut together this demo featuring a behind the scenes look at the Looking glass effect. Not only did this effect turn out amazing it also got us a VES nomination for Outstanding Compositing in a live action show. Hope you enjoy.
Time Well Wasted
Creative challenges are usually measured in how much time it takes for a project to start and end. The truth is that every creative individual is bringing a lifetime of knowledge that is tuned and refined over every waking minute of their life. keep being creative !
War Time
There Will Come Soft Rains Sara
Teasdale - 1884-1933
(War Time)
There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground, And swallows circling with their shimmering sound; And frogs in the pools singing at night, And wild plum trees in tremulous white, Robins will wear their feathery fire Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire; And not one will know of the war, not one Will care at last when it is done. Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree If mankind perished utterly; And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn, Would scarcely know that we were gone.
Final Flight
June 16th 2025
Here’s another image of the drone I chased a couple days ago. This unfortunately was the last picture I was able to capture this flight. The heat from the other drones thrusters melted a few key components of my quadcopter and it ended up crashing. Next time I plan on attaching a longer zoom zens so i don't have to get so close. Live and learn.
Autonomous
June 15th 2025
Lurking in the skies is a cloud of autonomous drones, most of which go unseen until their descent to deliver a payload. Delivery services first started shipping products this way around 15 years ago. At that point the drones were programmed to fly at a much lower altitude. This programming was altered quickly when it became clear that the general public was going to wreak havoc on this equipment. Many people shot them out of the sky or set up traps to steal the valuable components. Since then it has become common practice to fly these high above the clouds to avoid the shenanigans of human behavior. I captured this photo last week with a racing drone i fly around from time to time. It's fun using the shipment highways as obstacle courses to fly through. The drone I captured on camera is a small sized, short distance amazon drone. I got close enough to see the serial number on the back side of the craft. That's the first step when trying to hack one of these things. All you need is its serial number, altitude, GPS coordinates and a little bit of Unix terminal skilz.
How High Can You Get
May 30 2024
For my birthday this year my friends and I played a game appropriately named How High Can You Get. The main rule is to find a large building and try to climb to the highest point. The winner gets nothing more than bragging rights and a punch to the shoulder. This year my cousin ended up taking the crown. I met him up at the top roughly 10 minutes after he did. We climbed one of the old exhaust towers 20 minutes out of town. You could see for miles in all directions. It’s one of my favorite places to sit and think.
Oily Remains Of An Extinct Species
May 18 2024
It wasn't long ago that our main source of energy was created by burning the oily remains of an extinct species. The only drawback’s of this method was the slow heating of our planet and poor air quality. To get around one of these problems energy facilities build skyscraper-sized exhaust towers funnelling the pollutants high into the atmosphere. It was only on hot summer days you'd notice a dark haze on the horizon. Luckily since then most of our town has converted to greener, decentralized energy solutions. These once active towers now stand as a reminder of our power-hungry greed from the past. Many still sit dormant awaiting there demolition. A year ago my friends and I witnessed one of these structures being torn down. Later that week we had bought a pack of firecrackers and attempted to blow up some leftover bricks we had laying around the house. Unfortunately, the firecrackers were not powerful enough to inflict any damage. My father said he might know of a place to buy more powerful explosives but ill believe it when I see it.
Random Access Memory
During the process of digital creation the best place to keep your references, elements and tools is in the dark realm of Random Access Memory. Hear your studio space is not measured by the square foot but by the amount of bit’s you can remember at once. Some people ask “Does having more Memory allow artist’s to do better work?”. Id respond with “does a larger studio space allow an artist to create better artwork?”
The Frame Buffer
A space and time where a creative spends there days fabricating made up stories in the digital void of a computer. These outputs are then uploaded and distributed along a global network of computers were people like, share, and comment. Whats the creatives goal exactly? The poetic thing to say is to help fuel the urge of others to create. What’s the truth ...they don't know how to do anything else.
Red Vapor
May 2 2026
The smog was bad today. We could only see about 25 meters in front of us. This isn't your regular smog created from vehicles or pollutants. This was something else altogether. People had theories of where it was coming from but no one had answers. At first people thought it was possible chemical warfare or mind controlling gas created by the government. Fortunately there were no dangerous substances in this red tinted vapor. Only the unsettling feeling of not knowing what it was or why it was slowly spreading around the globe.
Mom
April 18 2024
The neighboring city is where my mother worked. She went to school for Machine Learning and Evolutionary Biology. Her working hours were never consistent. Even when she was at home you could tell her mind was somewhere else. She was fascinated with the artwork from Theo Jansen and was always trying to mix his ideology with her work. She had a room in the basement that was off limits to everyone in the household but time can only hold off curiosity for so long. When I was 11 years old i remember peeking into this room after she accidentally left the door open. What I saw inside was an odd mix of plant like shapes, highly saturated lights and computer screens. I didn't go into the room and I don't think I ever will…..
Abstract Shapes
February 14 2024
Flying in and out of the city you were able to see the large patterns painted on the Superstructures. Some were covered with abstract shapes others with countless advertisements. My favorite were the larger industrial buildings. They seemed to be a target for many graffiti artists who preferred to work on a large scale. Every time a Superstructure was tagged with a large piece it would make the news and be all over social media. This is what eventually fueled the demand for supersized advertising space.
